Trismosin's 'Splendor Solis' is an exceptional illuminated alchemical manuscript from the 16th century. The Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica holds both older and newer versions of this text, and has published on the manuscript itself. American artist Laurie Lipton has skillfully recreated all 22 images from this manuscript with colour pencil. A selection of 6 drawings are available in the form of an oversized postcard.

The first preliminary stage

"The aim of the hermetic philosophy lies in the uniting of the spiritual with the material. Thus the coast-of-arms of the hermetic art reflects the splendor of the Sun, uniting the planets in the heavens above with the alchemical work in the world of matter below."

A description of the image is provided on the back of each card in four different languages (Dutch, English, German, and French).

All six postcards are also available as a set here.
