of the Sabarthez, immersed himself in his days. Independent thought was innate to him as it was to many people in this region. And he discovered that its origin lies in the simplicity and openness of heart and mind, with which the people of Sabarthez lived and defended their territory and their spiritual wealth. He saw it as his duty to transmit and carry forward that spirit of freedom, brotherhood and fin'amor – courtly, spiritual love.
