Gnostic-Christian initiation with the Cathars

The Cathars referred to the three stages of initiation in terms of a metamorphosis: caterpillar –pupa –perfect insect. They also likened it to: Formation – Reformation – Transformation. The physical man (the Omega or end) must give way to the spiritual man (the Alpha or new beginning). The purified soul, liberated from the imperfections of matter, will then be transformed into the Light Soul.
